Sino-US Defense first call
State Councilor and Defense Minister General Liang Guanglie, on the 10th Gates with the United States Secretary of Defense Department of Defense through the two countries for the first time through telephone calls.
Liang stressed that the current situation in the Taiwan Strait remains sensitive hopes that the United States abide by the one-China principle, the three Sino-US joint communiques, adhere to the position, stop arms sales to Taiwan and US-Taiwan military ties, together with the Chinese side to jointly safeguard peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and good Sino-US relations overall. Gates reiterated that the United States Government on the Taiwan issue and the principle position that the United States will continue to uphold the one-China policy.
